Si en este momento nos paramos en la cocina frente a la bacha, nos agachamos, abrimos una puerta desvencijada bajo la mesada, movemos el aceite, el detergente y varios cacharros, atrás, muy atrás, incluso atrás del caño de desagüe, seguramente encontraremos una botella de vinagre. Si lo buscamos en nuestra memoria a la hora de hacer la lista de compras, es probable que esté en un lugar igualmente recóndito. Y en caso de tenerlo en cuenta, no enfrentaremos menos dificultades para encontrarlo entre las góndolas del supermercado. Tan olvidada está la categoría que no recordamos un sólo comercial de vinagre. Probablemente no exista ninguno.

If right now we walked into the kitchen, stood in front of the sink, crouched down, opened a worn-out cabinet under the counter, moved aside the cooking oil, the dish soap, and a bunch of random pots… way in the back — even behind the drainpipe — we’d probably find a bottle of vinegar. And if we try to recall it while making our shopping list, chances are it lives just as deep in our memory. Even if we do remember it, finding it on a supermarket shelf isn’t much easier. That’s how forgotten this category is: we can’t even recall a single vinegar commercial. There probably isn’t one.
